When Justice is Served: Public Justice, Rosa Moreno and the AAJ

At Paulson & Nace, PLLC, we are proud of the work we do to ensure that our communities are safe and that victims of injustice are given their day in court. It is why we sit on the executive board of Public Justice, a group of dedicated attorneys who fight against injustice in all of its forms. It is also why all of our attorneys take an active role in the American Association for Justice, whose mission “is to promote a fair and effective justice system—and to support the work of attorneys in their efforts to ensure that any person who is injured by the misconduct or negligence of others can obtain justice in America’s courtrooms, even when taking on the most powerful interests.”

This July, these two groups came together at an AAJ conference in Montreal, where Rosa Moreno was honored with the Illuminating Injustice Award for her advocacy of workers’ rights. Ms. Moreno lost both of her hands when a piece of machinery she was operating at a manufacturing plant in Mexico broke, and a heavy plate flattened her hands.

Ms. Moreno’s story is a common one for machinery workers – especially ones who work for U.S. companies that have outsourced their work. Her quest for justice was highlighted by Fox 5 in a two minute video that captures both the essence of her fight and the ongoing need for advocacy groups like Public Justice to being such stories to the forefront in the battle against injustice.
